Our story began when our founder, Awanatu Koroma, decided to quit her job as a lawyer to buy a small brick-and-mortar women’s clothing boutique in San Francisco. The deal ended up not going through but that created the opportunity for Shopawra to come to life.
The store was initially a contemporary online boutique specializing in women’s clothing, shoes and accessories from indie and designer brands. However, as our founder became more and more conscious about the social and environmental impact of the fashion industry, it became increasingly difficult to reconcile her ideals with that of the business. She knew something had to change after watching The True Cost documentary about a year ago.
Today, Shopawra is slowly emerging as an online hybrid marketplace where people can learn about sustainable fashion, discover amazing products from brands that care and shop directly from these brands — all in one place. This has been a true labor of love with incredible support from family, friends and dedicated customers. Thank you in advance for going on this journey with us!
